Vagabond Stars
A revue of scenes and songs – some of them funny and some sad, but all of them tuneful – adapted from authentic Yiddish theater material.. The show opened at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, where it was directed by Alan Albert, and then moved to New York’s Jewish Repertory Theater (JRT), directed by Ran Avni, where it won the Downtown Theater Award for best adaptation and ran almost half a year – plus several revivals. Raphael Crystal created the score and was musical director, and witty English lyrics by Alan Poul.
Critics unanimously praised its charm:
“It’s impossible not to be charmed by JRT’s bright new musical” – Shepard, NY Times
“A wonderful idea… a warm and charming entertainment” – Stasio, NY Post
“The audience was humming the music even before the curtain came down… a charming memory lane” – O’Haire, Daily News
